MTL Baits inception
MTL Baits was established in 2020 during the Corona Virus pandemic. When I couldn't work anymore because I was forced to stay home, I took those dedicated months to learn something I recently had been wanting to learn. How to make wooden swimbaits using my own hands.
After watching dozens and dozens of videos from the likes of Marling Baits, Solarbaits and The Engineered Angler over a 14 month span, when the lock down hit I knew right then I wanted to take the chance and try it out. Having never used many power tools in my whole life, and never used an airbrush, I went head first into the world of bait making! I had nothing to lose so I just went for it. After building some for myself I started having friends and followers ask me to make them some baits and well....here we are.
MTL Baits is what I've come up with. MTL is a derivative of my YouTube persona; Mr Tight Lines. Being a well established bass fishing channel on YouTube for many years, I felt it only proper to make some sort of acronym with it and keep the branding going.
Since creating a few various styles of baits, I now offer some of the models to the public. The established models are; Bruce Gillis, Kersmacks and the Mola Gilla Crawler. There's stories behind each bait and name, but that's something for another time.
Currently, as of writing this, MTL Baits is heading down the path of more production with a release coming soon using ROW Innovation production molds. The future is looking pretty bright and I can't wait to see what it has in store!
